Avanza is excited to announce the addition of our latest team member, Rick Schultz, MD, as Senior Consultant, Physician Relations and Operational Design.
He brings 25-plus years of successful surgical and system leadership to the team. For most of his career, Dr. Schultz, an ABOS board-certified orthopedic surgeon, worked for the non-profit Texas health system Baylor Scott & White. He enjoyed the challenges of combining direct patient care, physician leadership and system level executive positions. Through his opportunity to build and staff a hospital/clinic within a large system from the ground up, Dr. Schultz forged a unique combination of skills and experience that allows him to move smoothly from the C-Suite, loading dock, nurses’ desk, surgeons’ lounge to the senator’s office with equal effectiveness.
Dr. Schultz has held multiple leadership positions, including Chief of Staff, Chief of Surgery, Chief Medical Officer, Chief of Medicine and multiple Medical Director positions.
He has served as a teaching clinical professor at the Texas A&M Medical School for most of his career, which provides him with an understanding of the challenges of academic medicine and interaction with the community. He continues to serve as a peer reviewer for the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons journal and The Journal of Arthroplasty, and has volunteered on multiple committees for the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons over the years.
Dr. Schultz received his undergraduate degree from Rice University, medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed the Scott & White Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program.
